- The CLOWNS exhibition was Luigi’s first solo exhibition and was triggered by the question, “My friend, can’t you draw anything else other than country estates?”, posted by, one of Luigi’s friends, Mr. Henry van der Kwast.
Luigi presented Mr. van der Kwast with a couple of clown paintings soon there after, which left him speechless and togeter decided to organize an exhibition with ‘Clowns’ as the only topic.
This would require more clowns to be painted and also identify a location for hosting the exhibition.
Voilà, the seed for Luigi’s first solo exhibition was planted !!
A couple of months went by and a total of 22 clown paintings were done and ready for the exhibition, which took place at the Maduro Plaza.
The exhibition was held from August 28th, 1992 through September 18th, 1992. Almost all paintings were sold on the opening night.
The first (Flying Clown) and the last two (Fish Clown and Carnaval Clown) paintings were acquired by Mr. van der Kwast himself
